One day, a woman heard some information about a friend that she passed on to another friend. That friend passed the information to another friend, who passed it on to another, who passed it on... A little while later, the woman found out that the information was wrong, and she desperately wanted to make it right. She visited an old woman, known for her wisdom, to ask for advice. The old woman counselled the other woman to gather 10 feathers, and place them in the street outside her door, and return to the wise woman the next day. The woman couldn't understand how it would possibly help, but she did as she was told.

The next day, she returned to the wise woman. Much to her surprise, the woman sent her back to the street to pick up the feathers again. All day long she went looking for the feathers, but couldn't find a single one. Disappointed, she returned to the old wise woman to tell her the discouraging results of her efforts.

The old woman simply replied: "Let this be a lesson. As it is not possible to find the 10 feathers you left in the street, it is not possible to undo the damage you have done when spreading the information about your friend."
